forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Welcome to the Lutheran Church of the Cross Website. We hope you will enjoy your stay at the site. Our goal is to provide all the important information about the Church's past, present and future. We do hope that you will email us with any questions or concerns that you have.
I want to share an idea with you that originated with a conversation I had with Pastor Tim Stoa of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
All of us are aware that our government has made the decision to try and jump start our economy with a tax refund designed to encourage spending on necessities or frivolities. The range ( I think) is from 300.00$ to $600.00 per person depending on age. Pam and I haven’t decided how we will use our refund, except that we are going to tithe 10% of it to our church. Without getting too technical on the details, it has occurred to me that if all of us were to do that we would generate a substantial amount of money, perhaps as much as $45,000.00. Those dollars could be applied to our operating needs, church wide support, and a cause to which we decide collectively, we want to lend our support. I am excited by the potential of what this could mean for us as a community of faith.
One thought I have had is to come up with our own version of “Oprah’s Big Give Away.” Once a decision has been made about who, or what, we want to benefit we could appoint a task force and charge them with the responsibility of carrying off the project. This could be a fun way for us to make an impact in our region, or world, and raise awareness of whatever it is we choose to lend our support. Who knows, maybe we could parlay $45,00.00 into $90,000.00 or even more.
So I ask you to join Pam and I by tithing 10% or more of your tax return to the church and ear mark it as a gift beyond your normal giving to be set aside for designated purposes. Remember scripture reminds us that God calls us to be generous and to give with a glad heart. It is also true that we show what we love by what we do with what we have. Please, show your love for our church and its ministry by giving with a glad heart.
Peace be with you, Pastor Bill
